An idea the late James D'Aquisto had in the early 1980's, to strip the 18 inch acoustic archtop guitar of its pearl inlay, celluloid binding, sunburst finish, and all the features that typified the instrument. To use the best woods you can find, carve them for optimal tonality, and finish the instrument with a natural lacquer. A new, very modern interpretation of the archtop guitar was born, the "Classic."

I make the Magnolia Classic with very select spruce and dense, highly figured maple. Curly maple binding with ebony purflings are applied around the body of the instrument, and solid ebony binding with maple purflings surround the fingerboard, headstock and pick guard. Solid, hand carved ebony adjustable bridge and tailpiece are used for the fittings. The result - a simple, classy guitar, with a strong, round sound, very quick in traveling from the guitar to the ear.
